ABOUT MARK

Mark Ingram, Jr. plays halfback for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He is also a 2009 candidate for the Doak Walker Award, given annually to the nation's top running back. More importantly, he is currently the top contender for the Heisman Trophy.

In the 2009 season opener against #7 Virginia Tech, he was the player of the game with 150 rushing yards, a rushing touchdown, and a receiving touchdown. As of the first 8 games of the 2009 season, Mark has rushed 153 times for 1,004 yards and 8 touchdowns. He also has 186 receiving yards with 3 touchdowns. Mark ran for a career high 246 yards in the South Carolina game.

Mark’s strength and quickness proved too much to keep off the field as a true freshman in 2008. His innate adeptness at picking up extra yards after contact earned him a Freshman All-SEC selection by league coaches. He played in all 14 games in 2008 and gained 728 yards with an average 5.1 yards per carry. His team-high 12 rushing touchdowns set the Alabama freshman record, and he was selected as the team's Offensive Achievement Award winner.

Mark Ingram played at Grand Blanc Community High School, but transferred to Flint Southwestern Academy after his junior year. In high school, Mark was rated as a four-star running back by Rivals.com. He was ranked the 17th-best overall athlete in the nation (according to Rivals.com). Mark ran for 2,546 yards and 38 touchdowns in his final two prep seasons and added 260 receiving yards and two touchdowns . He set city records for rushing yards (377) and touchdowns (7) in a game and was named Saginaw Valley MVP and Area Player of the Year as a senior.

He is the son of former NFL wide receiver Mark Ingram, who won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants.
